Welcome to an oasis of luxury.
At Lux* Belle Mare there are gazebos draped with white chiffon, frangipanis littered on breakfast tables, an open-air cinema by the beach (swoon!), fresh green coconuts housing delectable coconut water, and rooms of one’s dreams.
THE HOTEL
Lux* Belle Mare is no ordinary hotel. We’ve stayed in a fair few luxury hotels but we have no qualms in admitting this is one of our favourite hotels in the world. Want to know why? Read on
THE ROOMS
We were in a a sprawling suite with an extra large bed and a whole bathroom ‘apartment’, furnished with the bathtub of Savi’s dreams (huge, no ridonculously huge), mirrors, a large shower cubicle, sinks, and a walk-in closet.
The minimalistic furnishing had a subtle nautical theme running through it with white walls, vintage trunks for side-tables, and straw hats on walls.
THE POOL
Lux* Belle Mare boasts of the largest pool in Mauritius – The two-tiered pool is the focal point of the hotel. The size and design ensures it never gets busy or looks crowded – perfect for those who like a bit of peace and quiet.
THE SPA
An enclove of peace and quiet, the Lux* Me Spa is the perfect retreat after a long day of sightseeing. We treated ourselves to rejuvenating body massages and could almost see our fatigue vanishing into thin air. Up, up, and away – their masseurs had magic fingers.
THE FOOD
We called it an oasis, but forgot to add it’s one helluva self-sufficient oasis. Lux* Resorts make their own wine, water, ice-cream (so creamy, it would give most Italian Gelaterias a run for their money), and roast their own coffee. As a result, their food is impeccable.
If you intend on spending most of your time at the hotel, you should opt for the all-inclusive package to enjoy the vast variety of food on offer while saving a bunch of money. Their elaborate breakfast spread had a large variety of continental, Mauritian, and Chinese dishes on offer. But we were really impressed by the food on offer at their Asian fusion restaurant Asiatica. A variety of tapas style dishes, paired with complimentary house wines, left us wanting more.
THE HIGHLIGHT
Ironically it isn’t the rooms, food, ice-cream, or spa that make Lux* Belle Mare special – it is the people. Everyone we met – from the waiters to the masseurs, from the water-sports instructor to their manager greeted us with warm smiles and made us feel welcome. What more could a guest ask of a hotel?
Here are the activities it offers that make it special and distinguish it from other hotels that we have stayed at during our travels:
1) Open Air Cinema
Colourful futons, huge pillows, and fairy lights set the scene for an al-fresco cinema on the beach. Sofas are surrounded by palm trees swaying in the ocean breeze. Cuddle up on a giant pillow or lounger with a cocktail in hand. This weekly affair at Lux* Belle Mare is definitely right out of our dreams.
2) Wine Tasting Session
Lux* Island Resorts produce quite a few delectable wines. Their house wines are imported from Paul Cluver’s vineyards all the way from South Africa. The emphasis on quality reflects in their crisp sauvignon blanc and full-bodied pinot noir. The hotel regularly hosts wine-tasting sessions for its guests. We opted for an Asian tapas – wine pairing dinner. Here’s our table for the night –
3) Coffee roasting sessions
If you are anything like Vid, this might excite you over and above anything else at the hotel. Lux* Belle Mare houses the Lux Resorts’ roastery and its roasting sessions are open to guests. Join the roasting crew to get more information about the source of their coffee beans, roast profiles, and the special espresso blend. A little bonus – you can have a go at roasting the coffee too. Brilliant!
4) Bike ride along the Mauritian coast
If you are craving a bit of adventure or an early-morning workout then this is perfect for you. The hotel offers bikes for rent and a guided bike tour to the tiny fishing village of Trou d’ Eau Douce. The 6 km bike ride will take you through stunning beaches, local onion farms, and the rugged Mauritian coastline. Follow it up with a session of yoga by the beach. All that exercise is bound to make your tummies rumble. Fear not – scrumptious lunch awaits guests at the hotel’s beachside restaurant.
5) Water sports
Lux Belle Mare offers a variety of water – sports, most of which are included in the All Inclusive package. Snorkelling, catamaran cruises, deap-sea fishing, and jaunts in glass-bottomed boats are some of the few activities on offer. The Belle Mare beach is pristine and this ensures a great view of undersea creatures and schools of fish.
6) Romantic breakfast at an isolated beach
It’s not everyday that we begin our day with delicious tropical fruits, flaky croissants, and eggs made to order with the warm water of the Indian Ocean lapping at our feet. Throw in THAT table, and we’re starry eyed (with good reason!) 🙂

Hey Zoe, this resort is perfect for honeymoons. We chose Lux* Belle Mare because we wanted something a bit more indulgent since our last few holidays had been quite hectic. We couldn’t have made a better choice – loved the hotel and the resort 🙂
Newly hooked to your blog….What do we need to do in order to be on their guest list? Really? 🙂

Hey Aditi – if you guys enjoy a lively hotel, with families, activities et al then Lux* Belle Mare is the property for you. If you enjoy privacy then look up Lux Le Morne 🙂
hey, love your website! I’m planning to go to Mauritius in August. Ideally, i want to stay someplace where the beach a transparent water but also where the beach isn’t rocky. Can you help me figure out a place? Most of what I found online seems to suggest north west mauritius as the place but i’ve head the beaches can be pretty rocky.
You could stay at Lux Belle Mare – the beach was sandy and water pretty
Apparently Lux Belle Mare isnt open right now.. apparently closed for renovation or some other reason.. any other place you would suggest we should stay at Mauritius.. luxury break at an outstanding location too.
Hey there are many but check out Beachcomber Shandrani and Four Seasons 🙂
