Let me count the ways in which I love thee
Luxury traveller or backpacker, wine connoisseur or adventure enthusiast. I don’t like typecasting travellers – every traveller is different. There is NO right or wrong way to travel and don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise! Floppy hats or hair pulled back into a ponytail, maxi dresses or hiking gear, 4 suitcases or just a backpack – they’re all as right or wrong as each other. For this reason, it’s hard to suggest one ideal honeymoon destination that works for everyone.
So we’ve come up with a list of our favourite destinations, with pros and cons for each destination for every single kind of travel. You’ll find something here irrespective of whether you’re a history connoisseur, photographer, old-school romantic, or a beach bum 🙂
-
1) Maldives for luxurious privacy
Best time to go: All year round
Best for: Luxury hotels, water sports, private island getaways
Ideal length of stay: 4-5 days
Cons: Guests are confined to one hotel, it’s expensive and hard to hop b/w islands
If you want to spend your honeymoon marooned on a tiny island in the middle of the Indian Ocean then there is no better place than Maldives. The country offers some incredible luxurious getaways. Spend your days relaxing with your partner, indulging in watersports, getting massages under the Maldivian sun and relishing the privacy of overwater villas.
-
2) Slovenia for European grandeur on a budget
Best time to go: June-September
Best for: Countryside getaways, gorgeous drives, and lakeside hotels
Ideal length of stay: 10 days
Cons: Lack of amazing beaches
Slovenia is one of the prettiest and most underrated countries in Europe – expect stunning pastures, cascading waterfalls, cottages converted to B&Bs, and glittering lakes. The landscape is similar to Switzerland, Germany, or its immediate neighbour Croatia, but its much easier on the pocket. Check out our detailed guide to a roadtrip in Slovenia to plan your honeymoon in Slovenia.
-
3) Seychelles for a beach getaway like no other
Best time to go: Year round but March-June are the best months to visit
Best for: Stunning beaches, luxurious resorts, and local markets
Ideal length of stay: 7-10 days
Cons: Can get expensive
Seychelles is ideal if you desire a beach holiday but find the idea of staying in one island resort for the entire duration of your honeymoon constricting. It is easy to hop b/w islands and every island of the archipelago has something different to offer to guests. Spend your days cycling along the coastline, devouring fresh seafood, lounging on some of the prettiest beaches in the world, and relishing Seychellois hospitality. Read our detailed itinerary for Seychelles!
-
4) France for the undying romantic
Best time to go: Year round but June-September are the best months to visit
Best for: Paris, French villages, wineries, and coastline drives
Ideal length of stay: 7-10 days
Cons: Can get crowded and touristy
France is an elixir of sorts. It might be clichéd but this is a country where clichés converse to make magic happen. We suggest starting your French honeymoon in Paris (where else) before heading to the vineyards of Bordeaux and/or the coastal towns of the French Riviera. We promise you, you will come away completely smitten! We have written tons of articles about France, so make sure you consult them before planning your honeymoon in the country.
-
5) Finnish Lapland for some winter romance
Best time to go: December – February
Best for: Northern Lights, reindeer sleigh rides, husky safaris
Ideal length of stay: 5-7 days
Cons: Can get really cold
If you want to honeymoon in a veritable winter wonderland, then Finnish Lapland is the place to be. Visit Rovaniemi, also known as Santa’s hometown, book yourself a dreamy reindeer sleight ride or a husky safari in Arctic Forests. Rent a romantic lodge in the wilderness and enjoy a surreal honeymoon in Finland.
-
6) Iceland for a stunning yet adventurous getaway
Best time to go: June-September for Midnight Sun and roadtrips, December – February for Northern Lights
Best for: Stunning panoramas
Ideal length of stay: 2 weeks
Cons: Unpredictable weather
Iceland is a gem of a country. There are stunning panoramas at every step – waterfalls, fjords, volcanoes, glaciers, caves carved our of ice, geysers, and so much more. Summer months are perfect for a roadtrip in Iceland as days are long and it is possible to drive long distances each day. Winter months are ideal for snow-laden landscapes and chasing Northern Lights. We’ve been to Iceland during summer and winter months but would be hard-pressed to choose one of the two – it’s equally special during both times of the year.
-
7) New Zealand and Fiji Islands for the perfect mix of adventure and luxury
Best time to go: November – February for a summer roadtrip
Best for: Stunning panoramas and night skies
Ideal length of stay: 2-3 weeks
Cons: Long distances, can get expensive
If staying in scenic B&Bs and driving through a country peppered with some of the most gorgeous beaches, fields full of flowers, and picnic spots in the world is what you are craving for a honeymoon, then New Zealand is the place to be! It makes for an ideal active honeymoon – pencil in some hikes on your itinerary, go for a glacier walk, or book a bungee jump for yourself. New Zealand is full of surprises and you’ll love it! Check out our itinerary for a roadtrip in New Zealand.
And if you want to pamper yourselves after this adventurous road trip, there’s no better way than to fly to Fiji Islands and enjoy a truly luxurious honeymoon at Namale. You must read all about this beautiful experience in Fiji.
-
8) Peru for the culture vulture
Best time to go: November – February
Best for: Cultural sites, beaches, and historical towns
Ideal length of stay: 2-3 weeks
Cons: Lot of moving around if you want to see the entire country
If you want an offbeat honeymoon, then Peru is the country for you. The country has so much more to offer than just Machu Picchu. You can visit the verdant Amazon Rainforest, spend time exploring Cusco, fly over the mystical Nazca Lines, and sample Peru’s beaches. Don’t forget to devour Peruvian food – those luscious avocadoes and ceviche platters will leave you wanting more. Check out our itinerary for your honeymoon in Peru here.
-
9) Bali for a relaxed honeymoon on a budget
Best time to go: Year round
Best for: Budget-friend luxury and laid-back wellness
Ideal length of stay: 1 week
Cons: Can get crowded, Mosquitoes and lizards during monsoon months
If roadtrips or active holidays don’t float your boat and you just want to lay back and relax on your honeymoon, then Bali is the perfect place for you. Choose a luxurious hotel on the beach or head to the highlands (our preferred choice!) for a honeymoon that will rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. Rent a villa in the paddy fields surrounding Ubud or book a hotel – spend your honeymoon getting massages, eating sumptuous organic food, relaxing in the spa, or go for a ride in the paddy fields.
-
10) Japan for a sensory experience like no other
Best time to go: Year round but April is ideal to catch cherry blossom season
Best for: A unique honeymoon dotted with panoramas and cultural experiences
Ideal length of stay: 2 weeks
Cons: Expensive, can get really crowded in cherry blossom season
Japan isn’t a destination that pops up on too many honeymoon listicles, but if you ask us, it’s ideal for a honeymoon if the couple is curious other cultures and wants to experience some bucket-list panoramas such as Mt. Fuji at the same time. Japan offers so much to the visit – start in the hustle bustle of Tokyo, escape to Mt. Fuji for a few days, explore the historic bylanes of Kyoto, and book yourself a chalet in the Japanese Alps for some peace and quiet. Make sure to drop by a sushi bar every night and sample the incredible Japanese cuisine on offer. Check out our itinerary for Japan here.
Before you pick out the final destination for your honeymoon, you should check out Expedia’s new tool, which helps you pick the best honeymoon destination from hundreds, suited to your preferences. We love that it customises the choice based on variable factors such as your budget and the month of your honeymoon. Psst you’ll see a photo of ours from Maldives in the background too 🙂 Check it out here

Hello guys!
You are amazing! I with my husband wants to go for holidays in December. I live in London and have pakistani passports, Please tell me any country for where we can get visa easily and which is rich in landscapes &, full of nature and should be cheaper. The weather is cold in December so tell me accordingly.
Hey Maria – would suggest getting a Schengen visa and going to Canary Islands (quite nice in December )or Peru if you get reasonable flights 🙂
Hey Savi,
Do you guys have a similar article for great honeymoon destinations within India?
Given the pandemic we want to travel domestic.
Thanks!
hello
please inform name of pvt resort in Maldives with beach front & water villas which is easy on pocket. Shall not be far from Male Airport
Would like to do water sports, island hoping, dolphin watch etc
If possible then split stay in 2 different nearby resorts
Awaiting your reply
Hey Jaideep – if you are after luxury, then Club Med Maldives is one of the most affordable hotels in Maldives. Would suggest checking out their all-inclusive packages. We also have a detailed article on it on our website with a list of pros and cons
Hey savi do you have some similar itinerary for europe trip

That’s so cute – thanks a million Mahanvi. Hope you get to travel tons super soon 🙂
lovely pics & valuable information
Is New Zealand a good option to go in april? Also, what would you suggest along with it: Bora Bora or Fiji?
Hey NZ is nice in April, not too crowded with tourists, can get a tad cold, and overall pleasant. It’s easy to combine both Bora Bora and Fiji, so just select the one that suits your budget best. Bora Bora is a bit more luxurious while Fiji has a bit more in terms of cultural things to do 🙂
Hey Savi n vid! How u guys doing😍 love you both..We r planning for our honeymoon in a couple of weeks and don’t want to spend too much as it’s New Years time everywhere the prices are extremely high from the tickets to everything..kindly help out.. much love!
Hey Shilpa – that’s true. Tickets skyrocket at New Year – try Indonesia or Thailand if you want something budget friendly 🙂
After seeing you guys visit all these places, it’s definitely hard to choose just one trip from this list!!
Hehe then we’ve been successful 😉
Great list, I am a hopeless Romantic and Paris is my dream destination, hopefully I can make it there with my Bae.
Pretty sure you’ll love Paris – hope you make it there super soon 🙂
Wow! The photos are amazing! Just inspires one to travel. Thanks for sharing.
Nice list.. How about visiting New Zealand in May first week?
Hey Gaurav – there’s no bad time to visit New Zealand. May in New Zealand can get cold but fantastic
Awesome list! Seychelles looks like the place for me! Great info – many thanks!
Seychelles is a truly great place for a honeymoon 🙂
thanks for your advices. I and my partner are planning our honeymoon for this summer. So it halps us much. They are all amazing places. But I like Bali most.
Hey that’s awesome – hope you make it to Bali for your honeymoon 🙂
Hi. Just wanted to know if you guys have any suggestions for Austria. Was planning to visit this summer with family
Stay in a city like Vienna, explore a village like Hallstatt, and do go to the ice caves in Werfen
I was hoping Greece (Mykonos Santorini) to be in the list ! Any specific reasons they were left out ?
Aaah – just 1 reason. Too many places, too little time 😉 We wanted to make this about the slightly different destinations – but Greece will def feature in Part 2 of our favourite Honeymoon destinations
Hey! Guys .. which places in Europe would you suggest for a winter honeymoon? We want to make our Christmas and New year’s Eve a very special one
Lapland in Finland is great for this kind of holiday 🙂
Hi Savi & Vid ,I must say you guys are doing an amazing job i have been following you on instagram from days when you had very few pictures but now it has became an destination guide for many. I have tortured my boyfriend asking to visit every other place you guys visit and post .Here comes our first visit as we are getting married and planning our honeymoon during 3rd week of december.. having hard time to decide a destination .Its either too cold or rainy(tropical region specifically Seychelles).
After long debates and discussions Me and fiance could agree for Paris and Zurich.. (Christmas in Paris attracting us) Do you suggest a better place or help us with zurich itinerary for 3-4 days..
Hey – thanks for sticking by for so long. Paris and Zurich sounds like a great option. We just uploaded a video on things to do in Zurich for 4 days on our Youtube Channel – check that out for pointers 🙂
Hi savi and vid!! These places all look so amazing!! Will keep all these places in mind while planning my honeymoon. Thanks a ton!! Sorry if I’m being nosy but really want to ask you this, Where did you guys go for your honeymoon?
We didn’t go for a honeymoon – ever the rebels 😉 So we decided to make everyday a honeymoon – lol
Awesome post it is. You have curated a great list of some lovely places to travel specially for honeymoon peoples. All places are really attractive. Thanks for taking your time to write on these destinations.
Hi Savi Vid! Your insta page rules! Thanks for educating us about traveling. How would Italy or Spain fair as a honeymoon destination?
I think it would be gorgeous. If you choose Italy, then definitely stay in the countryside of Tuscany for your honeymoon 🙂
Hi Savi and vid,
Great list but I had also noted down Koh Samui during my understanding of honeymoon destinations combining fun as well as luxury. Can you throw some light on Koh Samui?
It’s great if you want lots of beaches and partying 🙂
Hi Guys
You guys doing some amazing work and iam always inspired by you two …
Iam planning my honeymoon around new year to be prices after 25th Dec, i thought to do this a mix of city travel and beach .. I have some ideas about combining new Zealand and fiji together for say 10-12 days.
Let me know your thoughts on it ..
– As is can be done or iam being too ambitious
– How should i plan this as in first nZ and then fiji or visa versa
-what would travel cost around
– Places to cover in NZ via road and formalities involved in it etc ..
– OR u can recommend any other places..
HELP me plan it better ..
Look forward to your reply
Thanks
hey if you have just 10-12 days then we’d suggest sticking to just Fiji or New Zealand. Trying to cover both countries in 12 days will lead to a lot of wastage of money and time. You can choose a country based on whether you want an outdoorsy roadtrip or a relaxed time by the beach. Have fun 🙂
aaawww this is so cute
Hi
Are there any other places we can combine with Iceland. We are planning for 15 days in the month of April/May.
Thanks 🙂
Of course – lots of places in Europe. You can combine it with Helsinki or Paris depending on your flight route
What a jodii.. Nice to see both of you.. Your picture are awesome..
Hi Savi and Vid,
You guys are adorable and more than anything I love the fact that you believe in things(like Feminism) which makes the world a better place and I thoroughly enjoyed this post. So, I am going on my honeymoon in December and would like a suggestion from you, which of these places (or some other place which is not on the list) has a good nightlife in addition to landscapes, adventures etc. We are the kind of couple who want calm serene and scenic places during the day and a nice lively place after sun sets. Would
Hey Koh Samui might be a great bet for you as it offers partying and scenic beaches too!
Hey Vid and Savi , this blog on honeymoon destinations is just amazing, I just wanted to knw if I want to travel to Maldives fr my honeymoon which resort or villa or hotel will be good or the best one.
Hey Steven – we’ve been to Maldives just once and stayed at Outrigger Maldives – we did write about our experience here in case you fancy a read https://www.bruisedpassports.com/maldives/outrigger-konotta-maldives-review-overwater-villa
Hi Savi and Vid,
Iam planning a trip to Bali this July with my husband. This is going to be our second vacation in our 3 years of marriage as we both are too much occupied with our work life.
Just need your suggestions on where should we stay as in which part of Bali. I would personally want to cover both the beaches and valley side. Also, can you please share an itinerary. TIA.. much love to you both.
Hey Tripti – check out our ultimate guide to Bali here. It’ll help you make your choice https://www.bruisedpassports.com/wheres/bali-two-week-itinerary-planning

Happy you enjoyed it!
Hey Vid and Savi, thanks for this amazing blog. You inspire us all to live our dreams.
What’s your view on South Africa (Cape town & Johannesburg ) as honeymoon destination for December.

Hey you two ❤️
I am planning my honeymoon this December (2019) from 22nd to 3rd January (so 2 weeks around) and i am planning for Australia/New Zealand.
I am looking for some great scenic beauty places and some nightlife to enjoy as it will be Christmas and New Year’s that time. Also, i am constrained by a budget of say INR 5-6 lacs.
Please advise what should i do?
Hey Prateek,
Congratulations! Aus/NZ is a great idea. Do go through our detailed articles on both Australia and New Zealand to plan your itinerary. We did a road trip in New Zealand and loved it.

Hey Vid and Savi, thanks for this amazing blog. You inspire us all to live our dreams.
Could you please recommend some honeymoon destination for December.
Thanks in advance:).
Hey Vidz would recommend places like New Zealand and Peru for December as Europe is quite cold. If you enjoy cold weather holidays, then Lapland is a great option 🙂
France is a type of nectar. We suggest you start your French honeymoon in Paris. Thanks for sharing information
HI Guys,
Great post , i am planning a trip to NZ.
Based on the information collected, i got the feel that south island has more to offer than north.
i was thinking of flying to South Island from Delhi and then renting a car going towards north. In reverse itinerary of yours basically.
Hope the same should be doable in terms of getting car rental – starting from Christchurch and ending at Auckland.
I have a 15 day plan – hence i want to shorten the north island part a bit and spent more time in south island.
Hey Purav – yes the reverse is absolutely possible and it’s a great idea to spend more time in South Island than North 🙂
Hiiii… I wanted to know few things about Phillipines as we are planning for honeymoon there !
Savi Vid.. Iceland in March is ok?
Hey yes- Iceland is usually great in March 🙂
Hii you guys !
I wanted to ask about Phillipines for honeymoon ?
What are your views on it ?
Hey Vibhuti – Phillipines is great except there is one problem – the really scenic spots don’t have luxurious accommodation and the spots around the nice hotels and resorts are super crowded. So it might not be for you if you want a mix of luxury and scenic spots at your doorstep
The 10 honeymoon spots you share are really great, next month I and my fiancé will definitely go on a honeymoon at 1 of these 10 locations, the article you share these places is great.
Wow this was amazing..
How about Australia though?
Could only include our Top 10 – but Australia is a great honeymoon destination as well 🙂
Hey Savi! That was very helpful. We spent our honeymoon last December in New Zealand..!! We had a great honeymoon filled with scenic drives and loads of adventures. We are planning a trip to Spain this December and require suggestions about itinerary for 15 days in Spain. Would be great if you could help! Thanks in advance.!
Love you guys and keep up the good work:)
Hey Reethi – that’s awesome. We have several detailed articles on Spain on our website. Just use the search button on the top right. Happy reading 🙂
Hey Savi and Vid
This blog is amazing . I want to ask about Mauritius why did you not include it in your list . I am planning my honeymoon there .Can you please suggest anything?
Hey Komal – we could only include 10, so picked our favourites. Mauritius is great for a honeymoon. We have a detailed guide to the island – you’ll find it handy 🙂
Hey, We are planning a honeymoon in Seychelles by end of January. Would it be an ideal time to visit?
Let me know, Thanks!
Hey Akshay – Seychelles can be quite hot & humid in January but other than that, good time to visit 🙂
Great list!! Seychelles is the place i want to travel next hopefully i can make it soon. Thanks
Hi,
This is very helpful. We are planning a honeymoon in the February end. What is the suitable place to go in that month.?
Thank you
Hey places like New Zealand, Bali, Peru, Lapland are ideal at that time of the year 🙂
Hi,
Please suggest places for HM in the monthof May..
Europe is great that time of year – you can visit France or even Croatia 🙂
Hey savi and vid

I wanted to ask, is end of May suitable to go to New Zealand for honeymoon? We both are very adventurous, and wanted some place which could offer us that. Please do suggest. 🙂
Hey Shiva,
Thanks. It might be cold in May end but New Zealand will still be beautiful 🙂 most of the adventure activities will be open in May end.
Wow looks amazing places for the honeymoon this is really the great list of places to explore.
Glad you like it 🙂
Hello I would love to go on a honeymoon at the beach for about 7-10 days, not needing to be extravagant but it offers comfort & privacy.
Hey savi and vid !!
Do you have any suggestions for a honeymoon getaway during covid. Getting married in December but have no clue where we can go.
We live in kerala/dubai.
Hey Roohi – would love to advise you. However things are changing so quickly at the minute that it is impossible to say which countries would be open. So i suggest planning a trip within India/Dubai itself 💜💜
Great post!!!!
Thanks for sharing this great information on honeymoon destination
Amazing blog! Will surely help to choose a place.
Thanks for sharing information. I interest trip Bali, can you share more things
We have a lot of detailed articles about Bali on our website – you can check them out 🙂

Hi
Love the curated list but still got some doubts. We are wanting to go somehwere in europe late july but want to cover three type of things- snowfall, one chill place like amsterdam and one beach natur pretty place but everything on a decent budget. Please please can you help me with choosing certain places
Hard to find all those in one place 🙂
Greatest post I have ever read thanks for sharing. I’m getting married the next year. This post will help me in making my dreamy honeymoon.
Happy to hear 🙂
Hi guys!
I was planning my honeymoon for December for New Zealand basis your awesome itinerary on this list. However, with borders opening now, the VISA complications will make it a no-go. Which other destination would you suggest for December. I am based out of India for your reference.
Thanks a bunch!
You can consider Seychelles, Mauritius, or even Fiji – all offer visa on arrival 🙂
Hello, we are planning our honeymoon in February and want a budget trip to a cold place. Which place do you suggest ?
Hey – You can consider Gulmarg or Slovenia (it’s a great affordable alternative to Switzerland)
Hi
How would Greece and Turkey be an option for Honeymoon in December or Early January?
Wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re only visiting big cities like Istanbul as days are chilly and grey and many of the restauraunts/shops are closed during off season, especially on Greek Islands 🙂
Thanks for sharing the excellent article, do you have any plans to visit iceland or nordic countries?
Yes 🙂 Please do search for those destinations using the search button on the top right 🙂
Hi Savi and Vid,
You guys are amazing!! And quite frankly, we plan a lot of travels based on your posts and they have been fabulous 🙂 We are now planning a trip in February to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Can you suggest some destinations for this considering we will need to also take our toddler along with us.
Hey since you’re going in February consider Lapland (Finland). It’s super kid friendly as it’s known as Santa’s home. If you’re after someplace warmer, would highly recommend South Africa – perfect for a 10 anniversary trip 🙂
