Travel is our PASSION. But Bruised Passports isn’t just about travel. It’s about love and living full, happy lives.

We were schoolmates, friends, we dated for eons, and then got married. Our passports are full of bruises and stamps because we’ve been travelling extensively for over 15 years now! Together we’ve been to over 95 countries and hundreds of cities. But it was only seven years AFTER we first started travelling together that we decided to start our own blog to pen our favourite things about the world for fellow travellers. Gradually, it transitioned into a full-time profession for both of us. Bruised Passports has all the details you would need to plan a trip to a new country – itineraries, accommodation suggestions, packing guides, and tips for budgeting. But Bruised Passports isn’t just about travel.

It’s about love and looking at the world through rose-tinted glasses. We’re both hellbent on questioning convention, chasing true happiness, and phasing out the negativity and clutter that define modern life. Nobody’s life is perfect but focussing on the positives just leaves us with so much more time and energy to engage with things we love. Over the past few years, we have won a number of prestigious awards for our work in the travel blogosphere, featured on dozens of news channels, and delivered several TEDx Talks that focus on designing the life of ones dreams through passion and hard work. Here’s a bit more information about us:

Savi at Mt. Fuji, Japan 😀

Our travel style:

We love exploring a country in our own unique way – you’ll find us meandering down forgotten alleys, spending hours in crumbling buildings, or days trying to find the perfectly-baked croissant. We have a soft spot for offbeat and romantic travel, luxury accommodation, local experiences and culture, and fine dining.

Sustaining ourselves on the road:

We were both born in professional middle-class families, so we’ve spent most of our lives educating ourselves as much as we can and working hard. In 2015, after saving for 10 odd years, we quit our jobs to become full-time travel bloggers. Full time travel blogging is an extremely demanding, yet fruitful, job. We spend over 8 hours every day penning detailed destination guides, clicking high-quality photographs, answering all our readers’ queries and responding to every comment on social media. It’s time-consuming but we love every bit of it because we are passionate about travelling, writing, and sharing our experiences 🙂

We work as a travel photographer and travel writer duo to sustain ourselves while we are on the road. Our articles and photos are published in a number of renowned magazines, newspapers, and online portals including BBC Good Food Magazine, National Geographic Traveller, and The Huffington Post. We’ve also appeared in a number of TV shows on Discovery Channel and TLC Asia. In addition to this we have longstanding relationships with brands, who occasionally host us while we travel. Some of the ways in which we earn money include:

  • Travel writing
  • Travel and lifestyle photography
  • Public appearances
  • Public speaking
  • Social media campaigns and product reviews
  • Social media consultations

All the money we earn goes back into financing our travels. Some people like to save to buy a house, some like to splash on cars, some like to party, we love travelling. It’s really as simple as that.

  1. Lovely start! Am very happy to see this.
Vid, stay true to steering clear of Photoshop! That’s the thin red line you must not cross.

    1. Hey i was looking forward to a trip to Morocco soon.. Please share the must visits nad experiences of yours. Thanks ❤️

    2. Heyya, i have really loved your Instagram account and even your website; it’s so well glittering and every photo of yours has a spark. Wishing you loads of love from , AS, India??. Hope to get a reply soon. Wish to meet u a day. Xoxo

      1. Hey there Vid was a Business Analyst and I was a lecturer before we became full time travel bloggers 🙂

        1. Wow, that’s a dream job, if you guys think if you are on a job. Love the different and romantic way of showing the world through your lens and write up. Keep travelling and conquer the world.

          1. Im traveling very first time to abroad, want to to switzerland but agent here say that visa to Europe require travel history but we want to visit here only, I have indian passport, could you suggest what to do or any other country similar to switzerland where we can get Visa easily.

          2. Hey unfortunately Schengen visa apps are quite rigorous. Why don’t you consider Seychelles/Mauritius/Maldives etc for your first trip 🙂

    3. Hi Savi and Vid

  2. Thank you 🙂 Both sides of the Photoshop debate have merit, Vid is usually too lazy to process his photos 😉

    1. I see Vid became a photo processing/editing convert in the end 😉 No shame in that guys, it makes the photos all kinds of awesome. (Plus we are all guilty of a little visual embellishment here and there since instagram right?)

      1. Hey Guys,

Yep, after 6 years of deliberation, I finally decided to give Lightroom a try :). Recently picked up a copy and playing around with it but I must admit that even with basic touches one is able to make the picture much closer to what the eye saw and not what the camera is able to capture. Let’s see how long this honeymoon period with LR lasts 😉 First preference is still to get a technically correct image.

Hope all is well with you guys.

        Cheers

    1. Yay- good to hear that – usually I’m ‘that quirky madcap’ haha 😉 Looking forward to keeping in touch

  3. Best site I came across in a long time. The quote written by Vid here fills my heart with so much pleasure that it can explode. I share the same passion of laying my eyes on world’s best scenic landscapes, setting my foot on remotest parts of Earth, just keep on going, immersing yourself in the culture of every place.
P.S.- I do not believe in photoshop, so was glad to hear that the pics on your blog are untouched. 🙂

    1. Thanks a ton Ginny – hope you continue to enjoy following our adventures around the world. We’ll look forward to reading your comments on our posts 🙂

  10. Good to know more about you guys. 1. Hey Shivani – a lot of our blogger friends travel on a shoestring budget or put their houses on rent and use the rent to travel the world.

We like travelling comfortably, so we worked full-time jobs in London and saved for this round-the-world trip for 10 years. We put all our savings into travel instead of buying a houses, cars etc. But we also work full time in travel and have a host of location-independent jobs to help sustain us as we go along. You can read the articles titled ‘Who Are Savi and Vid’, ‘5 tips for bloggers’, and ‘Our Lives Are Changing’ on our website for more details about our lifestyle and some tips on making travel work full time 🙂

  34. Hey Savi and vid !
I just came across your blog via Instagram and I am loving all the posts! I have been glued to my iPad since 3 hours now just reading your blog and watching all the amazing photos! Kudos guys, you are an inspiration? Our story is similar, the way you both met is exactly how I met my (now) husband, friends to dating to getting married and now travelling as often as possible!!
So much love and happy travels to you both❤️

    1. Thanks a million for your lil note Riddhima – so happy to hear you enjoyed reading Bruised Passports, yay. Wish the two of you a lifetime of happiness and love 🙂

  35. I am regularly reading your blogs, I love you both are travelling in a unique way.
But Let me know one thing are you both British citizen?? or Indian citizen??

How you manage Visas if Indian citizen?? kindly post about Visas in your coming posts for indians

    Mayuri

    1. Hey Mayuri I’m an Indian citizen. As far as visas are concerned, we plan 4-6 month long legs of travel in advance and apply for all the visas we might need before setting out from Delhi/London, which are our two bases at the minute 🙂 Having an Indian passport is quite an obstacle when it comes to long term travel, but you know what they say – where there’s a will, there’s a way 🙂

  36. are you Indian or British citizen?
If Indian citizen than how you manage all visa hurdles for indians??
please do share experiences about visa issues

    1. Hey Mayuri – I have an Indian visa. We plan our travels 6 months at a time and apply for all the visas we need in either Delhi/London before we set off for the six months 🙂

  37. Hey both of you!

I’m an avid travel blog reader and a die-hard travel enthusiast and hence, you guys are a great source of inspiration. Been on your site before but just read your story. A big salute! Your Iceland road trip blew me away. Planning my second Eurotrip with friends this July and choosing between Spain/Eastern Europe. Your site will come handy.

    Thanks a lot!

    1. Hi Teja,

We worked and saved for this round the world trip. Now, we work full-time in travel and have location independent jobs through which we earn money to travel 🙂

  40. Hi i am still unemployed. But, i have a thirst to travel the world but how can i do it myself. Financially i don’t want to trouble my parents. I want to do it all by myself but even if i get a job how can i save time and money. Also, you guys are exceptional and extraordinary. Lots of love and keep travelling and ispiring us.

    1. Hi Naina,

Thanks a lot for your kind words. It’s best to get a job and then save money to travel. We saved for travelling for 10 years before we decided to move towards travelling full time. It’s not easy, but if you are really passionate about it, it can be done 🙂

  41. Hi Savi and Vid,

Me and my spouse have been following you on Instagram via name “Tripper Tales” over a while now.You both inspire us a lot. Totally in love with your travel photographs and stories. And no doubt the tagline “Bruised Passports” is unique and perfect. Keep travelling and keep inspiring us:)

  43. Hey guys!
Been following you guys on insta for some time now. Love everything about Bruised Passports ever since I’ve known it. I’ve often mentioned in my comments but still saying it here too, you guys are way too gorgeous and always look to me like, out from some storybook. Absolutely surreal.
And just one more thing, that is best about you two is, how you guys always read each and every comment and manage to reply back.

P.S : I like Savi more than Vid because she is so endearing and bubbly. And I can understand her love for all those fancy words and the luxury they provide(being a literati myself)

Suitcase full of love for you two.
    From a fangirl.

    1. Hey Drishti,

Thank you so much for such a beautiful comment – it put huge smiles on our faces 🙂

If our readers can take the time to leave comments, we can surely take out time to reply to them 😀

      Much love
      Savi and Vid 🙂

      1. Hi Savi and Vid – I am a 11 year old “desi” kid born and raised in Houston, TX. I have traveled over the past decade with my parents and have been blessed to have visited over 3 dozen countries. My parents ask me to research “off beat” things to do when we visit any city around the world and that’s how I stumbled upon your site! What can I say – its an amazing site and you have compiled a treasure trove of information. I also love to write and take pictures and your blog inspires me. We just finished a short vacation in Cannes, Nice and Monaco. We missed seeing Eze as we ran out of time. Now we are in Paris and will ask my parents to check out some of your recommendations. You both are awesome! Good luck and all the best!

        1. how exciting Eshaan – so happy to read your comment. Glad you stumbled on Bruised Passports and hope you continue to follow our adventures around the world 🙂

  44. Hello Savi and Vid. I have been your fan since the day I read about you two for the first time in a TOI article. I suggested so many of my friends to follow you guys on social media. The name itself- Bruised passports is so unique, so cute ? I cannot pass a single day without checking your updates . All your writings and pictures are amazing. They make me jump from my seat and think “Man! I want to pack my bags right away and leave” :D. Thank you for sharing your travel tales with us. You are one of my favorite and most adorable couple. Much love.

  45. I love your blog!! both of you are travelling my dream…❤
Enjoy the travels! and keep up the blog!..
    You are soo amazing❤?
And.. because of my curiosity just have a small question for you ..
Do not you want to have a child? And why?

    1. No we don’t. Simply because we don’t feel the need to start a family and don’t want to have one just to check an item of society’s list of approvals 🙂

  46. Hi there,

I have been following you for quite some time on Instagram.
I never ask people, how much money one makes, neither I like disclosing how much I earn. But, I have ever been wondering, how does travel blogging suffice and provides enough money especially for your luxury travel and the number of places you guys visit on a yearly basis. Just curious to know the business model, and from where the money comes from.
    Looking forward,
    Sandheep

    1. I think you’ll find the answer if you read the above article carefully. It’s yes but it depends on your priorities (career, house, cars, travel etc) – travel and gaining experiences is our personal priority, so we spend our earnings and saving on new experiences ?

  47. How can one become a travel blogger?
Do you require any specific degree?
    How much investment is required?

  48. Very such interesting blog was this …very happy to know many things and and everything was there in this blog was so happy to know about Bruised Passports thanks for posting…!

  53. Hey Savi. I love the way you live your passion.
We are planning to visit the UK coming March and would like to if you had posted an article on Scotland.
    Thanks 🙂

  54. Hey guys – I’ve been following your posts on social media for sometime now. Being a couple who love traveling, I relate to most of what you write and express. I had a few questions,

    – Did you do any ground work before you started traveling? Apart from the finances, how did you plan your travels?
    – I read somewhere in the comments that you know few couples who have kids and still travel full-time. Any references?
    – Do you do any sort of software work too? Apart from what you’ve already mentioned here?

As a suggestion, you can add local contacts whom people can approach – who have helped you during your travels. It’ll be really helpful.

    Happy Traveling!

    1. Hey there – we had already been travelling together for almost 10 years before we quit our jobs and did this full time 🙂 There are lots of family travel blogs like Bucket List Family etc

  66. Hey, Following you guys is becoming more & more tempting to travel around. Looking at the current pandemic situation , im not sure how long will it take to settle things down and hit the airports. I & my wife have to go to germany from 14th to 18th june 2021 for a business related expo and from there I am planning a short (max 10 days) surprise trip for my wife to iceland & faroe islands, tentative dated are 19th to 30th june 2021. Can you plz help me out with details like where to go , what to do , budgeting etc. Reason im thinking about it in advance is because i want to see if at all its feasible or else we can plan some other destination.

    1. Hey
      Wonderful article
I want to enquire as you have vistrd more than 80 countries .
Do any one of you especially Savi had to change your surname for applying visa to European countries?

      1. Hi Shivani – no savi did not change her name after marriage and has not needed to change her name to visit any country. That’s not something a country can ask you to do ?

    1. It’s lovely to find you guys. My husband and I are also fond of travelling sans any guide… We explore the cities on our own and mingling with the locals is the best way to travel.
However all our trips have been put on the backburner because of the Covid pandemic.
Wish to travel soon once the world recovers….
Love to you guys too ❤️ keep posting and keep rocking !

      1. Thank you for your message 🙂 Welcome to the Bruised Passports family 🙂 Yes, here’s to resuming travel soon

  72. Is it necessary to change the the surname of girl after marriage to get visa of some country?
Did anyone of you change your surname to travel abroad?

  78. Hello! It is great to look at your videos and I think they’re very informative. I am trying to apply for Schengen visa. I have a work visa in the United States with an Indian passport. Do you have any suggestions for this process?

  79. Love your articles and info. Would like to go to Lapland next winter but want to avoid the expensive and crowded tourist areas. Just interested in staying in a small village/ town dark enough to hopefully see the auroras and where we could walk or short drive for meals.
Just want to hang in the snow as a local. The only other thing would it would be nice to see some reindeer.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Mary
